Meet Our Tastiest Innovation: The Omega Passion Chocolate Bar
This week, we’re thrilled to launch Omega Passion® – a new breakfast bar that tastes like chocolate walnut fudge and fortifies like a salmon dinner!
The Omega Passion bars are our answer to three big questions we’ve been wrestling with for years:
1. How can we help omega-3-deprived Americans get more of these essential fatty acids?
2. Besides omega-3s, how can we make it easier for people to get other key nutrients needed for good health?
3. How can we make taking fish oil an enjoyable experience, including for those who struggle with oily textures?
Based on the feedback we’ve been getting from taste testing audiences, we’re confident that we’ve got a winner with this new product! For answers to the most commonly asked questions we received during the development process, please see below:
Omega Passion FAQs
Q: What does the Omega Passion taste like?
A: Omega Passion tastes a lot like chocolate walnut fudge. The dark chocolate gives it a rich, velvety mouthfeel. Walnuts and oats tantalize with a hint of crunch.
While Omega Passion tastes a lot like commercial chocolates, it should not be confused for candy. Omega Passion contains relatively little sugar compared to traditional chocolates and bars. And the core ingredients — from the full-spectrum omega-3s to the oats, walnuts, Greek yogurt, cinnamon and dark chocolate — are all superfoods that nutritionists recommend eating.
Q: What are the main benefits of Omega Passion?
A: Today, we know that maintaining a healthy microbiome is key to fighting a wide range of diseases and reducing chronic inflammation. And one of the best ways to support of our microbiome is to feed our gut bacteria good nutrients, like fibers, probiotics, and omega-3s.
Each ingredient in Omega Passion has been carefully curated for its microbiome benefits: fibers from gluten-free oats and walnuts, probiotics from the Greek yogurt, and EPA/DHA from our signature Omega Cure® oil. We’ve also added cinnamon and vitamin D3 for the noted immune benefits.
Our goal is that by eating Omega Passion, people will over time feel noticeable improvements in their digestion, energy level, mood, and focus.
Q: What’s the shelf life of a bag of Omega Passion?
A: Omega Passion does not contain any preservatives, so please store it in the refrigerator or freezer. In the refrigerator, Omega Passion keeps well for up to 1 month. In the freezer, you can store Omega Passion for up to 6 months.
Q: Who should eat Omega Passion?
A: Omega Passion is a great fit for anyone who does not eat fish at least 2 – 3 times per week, or take a high dose omega-3 supplement, like Omega Cure Extra Strength. We’re particularly excited by how it can help children ages 10+ as a breakfast and adult athletes as a pre-workout meal.
Omega Passion makes a great breakfast or pre-workout meal.
Q: Are there any people who should not eat Omega Passion?
A: Omega Passion contains walnuts and Greek yogurt, so it’s not a good fit for people with nut allergies or dairy intolerances.
Like many other chocolates, baked goods and ice creams, Omega Passion also contains small amounts of alcohol in the flavor extract (about 0.4% per bar). For reference, that’s a comparable amount of alcohol to what you would find in commercial apple juice, grape juice and baked products, like hamburger rolls. However, for people with dietary restrictions, this is something to consider.
Q: How can I get the most benefits out of eating Omega Passion?
A: To get the best results, eat Omega Passion regularly! We also recommend treating your Omega Passion bar as a breakfast or substantial part of your lunch, as opposed to as a snack.
Q: How much omega-3 is in an Omega Passion bar?
A: Each Omega Passion bar contains 1500 mg of EPA/DHA omega-3s. For reference, that’s about as much EPA/DHA as a 3 oz. fillet of salmon or 5 regular fish oil capsules.
Q: How much sugar does it contain?
A: Omega Passion contains 9 grams of added sugar from the 70% dark chocolate and the Greek yogurt. This is substantially less sugar than what’s found in comparably sized chocolate or energy bars. In addition, because of the combination with slowly digestible fibers from oats and walnuts, this should be a manageable amount of sugar, even for people with insulin sensitivity issues.
We are interested in reducing the sugar content in Omega Passion further in the future; however, we are also paying close attention to research that shows eating some sugar is important for creating feelings of satiation.
Q: What about protein?
A: Each Omega Passion bar contains 4 grams of protein, predominantly coming from the Greek yogurt. Since most Americans get too much protein, we did not make it a focus in Omega Passion.
Q: Can I travel with Omega Passion?
A: Just like regular chocolate, Omega Passion can lose its shape if it gets warm. For the best experience, eat the bar cold, right out of the refrigerator or freezer.
