For One Couple, Omega Restore Cut the Sleeping Pill Habit

For years, Carol had worried about her husband, John, taking several Tylenol PM®, plus two other sleeping aides before bed every night. Still, he insisted it was the only way he could get any rest.

When the couple moved from New Hampshire to Venice, Florida, however, they discovered Omega RestoreTM. And they found that the combination of omega-3 plus melatonin was not only helping them get off sleep medication; it was transforming their health. This is their Customer of the Month story.

Omega3 Innovations: How did you first get started with Omega Restore?

Carol Anne Geigley: My husband and I have been customers since last May. Our landlady brought us in. Our birthdays are around the same time, so we were all going out to dinner together. She said, “Before we go out, you’ve got to see this,” and she brought us to your office.

My husband was so impressed with everything he was reading and hearing. Meanwhile, I was thinking, I’m not sure we have it in our budget to buy this.

He said, “Carol, let’s try it.” And we’ve been doing it ever since. We plan our monthly budget so that we can get our fish oil every two weeks. We would rather give up anything else than this.

O3I: So what kind of a difference did you first notice with Omega Restore?

CG: My husband was the big changer of the two of us. He used to take five Tylenol PM, plus two other sleeping aides to sleep at night. He was doing this for a long time. We’re talking 10 years.

The first night after we got the melatonin vials, he looked at me and said, “There is no way this little vial is going to make me sleep. I’ll take two [Tylenol PMs].”

The next day he said, “Wow, that was one of the best night’s sleeps that I’ve had. I’m going to try without the Tylenol PMs tonight.”

For this past year, all he has needed is the oil with 9 mg of melatonin! He always wakes up telling me how well he sleeps. That was a big thing for us.

Also, he has COPD [Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease]. When we moved to Florida last February, he had difficulty walking from our parking space to our house. He would need to sit down and have oxygen.

Today, he is off all oxygen, and he walks a mile a day. When we bring back groceries from the car, he’ll say, “No, you go inside.” And then he’ll do four or five trips from the house to the car. The only changes we made were moving to Florida and starting on the melatonin vials!

Every time he goes to the doctor, the doctor says, “I don’t know what you are doing, but keep it up.”

O3I: Wow, that is amazing! Have you personally noticed a difference too?

CG: My cholesterol has gone down quite a bit [since starting Omega Restore]. I had been on cholesterol medicine for many years, but I still had high cholesterol. They were thinking of upping my medicine. But not any more.

And my body feels good. I always laugh at that “Like WD-40® for Your Aching Joints” sign when we come to the office. That’s it! It’s helping our joints too.

O3I: Had you tried taking any kind of fish oil or melatonin products before starting on Omega Restore?

CG: We tried fish oil tablets, but we were always burping up fish oil. I said, “I don’t care if it helps or not.” It was terrible. That was one of the things our landlady mentioned to us when we got started. “You won’t have any trouble with [fishy burps],” she said.

We also used to take melatonin, but it just didn’t seem to work for him. It could have been the stress of selling the house. But it didn’t work for him, and it didn’t work for me.

O3I: Do you have an Omega Restore routine?

CG: The only thing we do is to take the vial at night about one hour before we go to bed.

It’s something that we don’t want to miss at night. Back in July, we had to go to Tampa to take care of John’s uncle. And we ran out of the vials. I drove back to Venice and bought more. When we travel now, we make sure we get enough in advance.

O3I: Do you have any advice for other people interested in trying Omega Restore?

CG: I was the one kicking and screaming at first, saying this is just another fad. Now, when it’s pay day, I’ll say, “John, let’s go.”

Being Customer of the Month, that’s like the cherry on top. Because the story I tell you, I tell everybody.

  • Isn’t taking 9mg of melatonin excessive, considering that the human body at its peak of melatonin production around age 20-25 only produces an average of 300mcg, and releases it slowly over a 6 hour period? Even if it helped my sleep I would be concerned about long term negative effects from such a large pharmacological dose.

    • Dear Joseph Thorpe,

Thank you for your questions about melatonin. We can understand your concern about longterm usage, especially since new studies are coming out every week.

Melatonin researchers use a broad range of doses, often far exceeding 9 mg. You might be interested in reading this recently published review, which looks at the administration of melatonin dosages ranging from 0.3 mg - 1600 mg (although most were between 2 - 10 mg). We think you'll find the review helpful to read in full, but it concludes:

"Oral melatonin supplementation in humans has a generally favourable safety profile with some exceptions. Most adverse effects can likely be easily avoided or managed by dosing in accordance with natural circadian rhythms."

Another helpful abstract similarly states that, "In general, animal and human studies documented that short-term use of melatonin is safe, even in extreme doses. Only mild adverse effects, such as dizziness, headache, nausea and sleepiness have been reported." You can read more here:

Finally, you might appreciate watching this lecture with Professor Russel J. Reiter, Ph.D, M.D., one of the world's foremost experts on melatonin. The lecture is fascinating and informative in its entirety, but he also briefly discusses the topic of safety if you start at this time marker:

We hope this helps as you continue your own research.
